Savouring the Trend — An Evening with Jerry Parker at Raoul’s, New York

In this edition of Savouring the Trend, Adam Havryliv and Richard Brennan travelled to New York to dine with Jerry Parker at Raoul’s in SoHo. The restaurant balances old-world confidence with downtown energy, much like Manhattan itself. Over oysters, crab beignets, lobster bisque and Dover sole, the conversation moved between markets, structure and philosophy. Jerry reflected on his path from accounting to Richard Dennis’ original Turtle Trading experiment. He argued that many modern trend portfolios have drifted toward volatility smoothing and over-engineering, losing the pure asymmetry that first defined the strategy. He also spoke about TFPN, his trend-following ETF, and new ideas taking shape at Chesapeake. Between Jerry’s helicopter transfer from the airport and a fortune teller by the staircase, the night had plenty of New York colour. Yet it affirmed a familiar lesson: the most enduring investment philosophies are often the least hurried.
